Tasting Note
(93-95) Points, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (75% new oak; the crop level here was just 18 hectoliters per hectare, according to winemaker Michel Mallard): Bright, dark red. Deep, ripe aromas of black cherry and smoky minerality. Plush and utterly edge-free, offering terrific spicy lift to its intense dark berry flavors. This tactile wine is classically dry. Mallard told me he vinified this wine totally without sulfur (the first sulfur addition was last June, after the end of the malolactic fermentation), and in 2016 he extended this technique to all of the estate's wines. Displays outstanding sappiness and finesse if not the early sweetness of the Echézeaux. This wonderfully rich, fine-grained wine stains the palate with black cherry and black raspberry fruit.Review Date: 01 Jan 17
