When I visited in November 2022 to taste the Lécheneaut 2021s, it was Vincent’s son Jules who led the tasting as he becomes increasingly involved in the running of the domaine as Vincent’s brother Philippe steps back a little. Jules has already made his mark by adding some further new parcels which may show up in new wines in the years to come. We say it every year but, the Lécheneauts are so connected to their vines and vineyards and this focus was as significantly contributory in 2021 as it has ever been. The Lécheneaut 2021s show the engaging fluidity that I have mentioned elsewhere. These wines are all about balance and harmony, with the quality of the fruit for which this domaine is now so well known clearly evident throughout.

Good depth of fruit here in a cooler style. The palate is caressing and harmonious and this will be a pleasure to drink within a couple of years. Drink 2024-2027
Domaine Lécheneaut, Morey-St Denis 2021
£240 per 6 bottle case in bond
Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022
Spicy notes interlaced with clean, pure, healthy blue and red fruit notes. Cool and restrained. The palate shows a lovely mouth-watering touch and a sense of ease with itself. Good harmony and length. Drink 2026-2035
Domaine Lécheneaut, Nuits-St Georges 2021
£210 per 6 bottle case in bond
Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022
Good concentration on the nose – a promise of breadth, which materialises on the palate with a fine depth of cherry and red fruit held together by clay-derived mineral power that is perfectly balanced with the fruit core. Drink 2026-2035
Domaine Lécheneaut, Nuits-St Georges, Aux Chouillets 2021
£240 per 6 bottle case in bond
Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022
The Chouillets takes the level of concentration up a notch, the old vines really making their mark in 2021. The palate shows a deep fruit core and a sense of power, though the harmony is magnificent. Lovely balance and length. A very fine Chouillets from the Lécheneauts. Drink 2027-2035
Domaine Lécheneaut, Gevrey-Chambertin 2021
£255 per 6 bottle case in bond
Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022
The Lécheneaut Gevrey shows a beautifully healthy red fruit nose and similar fruit core on the palate. There is also a subtly expressed mineral persistence here, notably more stony in nature. The clean fresh fruit shows a graceful flow across the palate and the balance between fruit and structure is very fine. Drink 2027-2035
Domaine Lécheneaut, Chambolle-Musigny 2021
£270 per 6 bottle case in bond
Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022
Scented red fruit nose. Cherry blossom. The palate has a real floral touch, beautifully clean and elegant while a white stone grip towards the finish brings focus, structure and energy. Gracefully textured and showing great poise and direction. Drink 2026-2035

Domaine Lécheneaut, Nuits-St Georges 1er Cru, Les Damodes 2021
£360 per 6 bottle case in bond
Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022
While the 2021 Damodes has less of the exotic opulence of the last few vintages, it retains a fine concentration of silky fruit and a balanced density at its core. The palate is all clean, ripe red fruit presented in a flowing, harmonious style that captures the silky character so typical of this Vosne-styled Nuits. Beautiful balance and texture. Drink 2027-2037
Domaine Lécheneaut, Nuits-St Georges 1er Cru, Les Pruliers 2021
£360 per 6 bottle case in bond
Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022
The Lécheneauts’ Pruliers always shows a tightly-wound mineral core which makes its presence felt in the long stony finish. This year is no different. There is a poise and tension running through this Pruliers from start to finish. The fruit shows perfect ripeness and a spicy dimension. The finish shows a freshness, together with the typical mineral persistence. A very successful Pruliers. (Again.) Drink 2028-2038
