Tasting Note
91-94 Points, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous From the bottom of the hill: Full red. Spicy aromas of blackberry, currant, tobacco and smoke. Superripe, large-scaled and spicy; powerful, rich and verging on aggressive. Impressively dense and sweet but almost too much. From the middle of the hill: Full ruby-red. Superripe but sappier aromas of black fruits, minerals and gunflint, with a medicinal nuance. Dense and very ripe, with nearly roasted flavors of dark berries, minerals and spices. This has grand cru intensity. From the top of the hill: Ruby-red. Highly perfumed, floral nose hints at tangy strawberry, flint and flowers. Offers an uncanny combination of power and complexity. Extremely long and fine. This has the class and grip of Musigny. An extraordinary sample. An assemblage of the wine three major components: Deep ruby-red. Knockout nose of black raspberry, gunflint, minerals, tar, game and flowers. Sappy, supple and fat, with almost candied richness and ripeness of fruit. Superripe but fresh; this reminded me of the very best 1997s. Finishes with lush tannins and terrific slow-mounting fruit and mineral flavor.Review Date: 01 Mar 02
