About the Producer
The resurgent Morey-Coffinet estate is one of our ones to watch, with the thoughtful winemaker Thibault Morey at the helm. Thibault took charge at Domaine Morey-Coffinet in 2001, though he had been working there with his father Michel for some years already. The domaine itself is a result of the marriage of two well-established Chassagne families, with Thibault’s grandparents being Marc Morey and Fernand Coffinet. Since taking over, Thibault has transitioned the estate to organic viticulture and then biodynamic practices too, receiving biodynamic certification in 2018. There are 8.25 hectares planted of which 2 hectares are of Pinot Noir. A growing number of his vineyards are ploughed by horse, while sheep roam between the vines for a few weeks in the autumn to tidy up after harvest, allowing for greater biodiversity and less soil compaction. In the cellar there is an increasing use of larger barrels, as well as amphorae, all with the aim of allowing vibrancy and fruit purity to be fully expressed in his wines.
