Domaine Patrick Javillier 2019

Domaine Patrick Javillier 2019

Marion Javillier is understandably very happy with the quality of the domaine’s 2019s, even if she feels the loss of quantity. Javillier suffered losses from the frost of 5th April, while the cool weather around flowering led to a very high percentage of millerandage – leading to smaller berries. This can, however, contribute to an increased intensity and that is certainly the case here, with the wines showing a beautiful concentration but also a wonderful energy. This is another vintage in which the terroir of each site is already so evident due to the freshness and health of the fruit.

2019 Bourgogne Cote d’Or, Cuvée Oligocène, Domaine Patrick Javillier

£240 per 12 bottle case in bond

The Cuvée Oligocène displays a vibrant, ripe fruit nose of citrus and nectarine, with a gently honied touch. The palate opens with ripe peach and nectarine fruit, showcasing the wonderful ripeness of the vintage but this is counterbalanced by zippy grapefruit notes that lift the finish, on which there is also the white stone cut and drive typical of Oligocène. Fresh ripe fruit allied to good structure keep the long history of this Bourgogne Blanc performing well above its humble classification. Drink 2021-2026

2019 Meursault, Les Tillets, Domaine Patrick Javillier
£420 per 12 bottle case in bond

A touch of apricot and honey on the nose give way to a strong undercurrent of white flower, yellow citrus and ripe apple notes. The palate opens with a softness and ripe fruit appeal which is then given length by the mineral precision typical of this higher altitude lieu-dit. Pithy, mineral, moreish and with a mouth-watering saline finish. Drink 2022-2029

2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Domaine Patrick Javillier
£600 per 6 bottle case in bond

93-96 points, Jasper Morris MW,, October 2020

Still in barrel unracked and unfined. Full bright yellow with a little cheerful plump toasty oak. The weight shows first, the Corton-Charlemagne minerals come through behind. A wine, which is brooding and biding its time. Very good acidity, plenty of fruit weight. All is there, with as much power as is desirable before losing balance, and a fine long finish. Drink 2024-2034
