Domaine Patrick Javillier 2017

Domaine Patrick Javillier 2017

Patrick’s daughter, Marion, is now firmly in charge here and hopefully allowing her father a well-earned rest.  The wines have long been renowned for pure drinking pleasure but, in tune with the times and the demand for fine Burgundy, Marion continues to take the quality even higher.

The vineyards originally comprised just three hectares, of which two were village Meursault and the third of which was given over to the Aligoté variety. There are now ten hectares which extend over 14 separate appellations. The heart of Domaine Javillier will always be in Meursault, as the Domaine has six different plots of Village-level vineyard. Each parcel is vinified separately and then aged in barrel as appropriate before assembling the final blend or cuvée. The result is impeccable quality with modest pricing for vineyards and wines so highly regarded.

2017 Bourgogne Cote d’Or, Cuvée Oligocène, Domaine Patrick Javillier

£195 per 12 bottle case in bond

Restrained fruit nose but showing the ripe but fresh fruit style of the vintage.  Closed but nevertheless showing all the textured minerality typical of this eternally overdelivering Bourgogne Blanc.  There is always such harmony and drinkability in Javillier’s Oligocene as well as a consistently high quality that belies its official status. Drink 2020-2023

2017 Meursault, Les Tillets, Domaine Patrick Javillier

£390 per 12 bottle case in bond

Tillets performed exceptionally well in 2017, with the coolness of its higher altitude site providing a perfect counterpoint to the warmer conditions of the vintage.  The fruit here is pure and precise with a gently expressed mineral energy carrying through on a persistent finish.  Drink 2020-2025

2017 Corton-Charlemagne, Domaine Patrick Javillier

£540 per 6 bottle case in bond

Notes of citrus, apricot and white peach dominate the nose.  The palate is beautifully poised with an opulence of fresh fruit that currently almost entirely mask the clean minerality that gives the wine such fine length.  Really accomplished Corton-Charlemagne. Drink 2020-2026
