Domaine Hudelot-Noellat 2015

Domaine Hudelot-Noellat 2015

Hudelot-Noellat is an estate with a great history and truly stunning holdings. This is one of the rare estates, along with Leroy and Domaine Romanée Conti, to own Richebourg and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. In each of the many revered sites, Hudelot have a great parcel.  This already excellent estate was elevated to a new level with the arrival of Charles Van Canneyt, who succeeded his grandfather, Alain Hudelot, in 2008. Charles has not sought to reinvent the wheel but rather has fine-tuned every aspect of this top domaine. The influence is especially apparent at the village and lower Premier Cru level where Hudelot was traditionally a little weak, the big change at these levels is reduced yields. Charles’ meticulous nature has had an impact across every aspect of the vineyard work and winemaking… this is now one very tight ship. The quality of Charles work is reflected in a run of strong vintages and this estate is now high on collector hit lists.

Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Chambolle-Musigny 2015
Charles Van Canneyt’s Village Chambolle is wonderfully sweet fruited. Clean and clear with a pure raspberry character and a touch of raspberry confit. This is a pristine Chambolle Villages full of delicacy and nuance. Excellent. Drink 2018-2025

Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Vosne-Romanée 2015
The 2015 is full of beautifully sweet and succulent purple fruit with just a touch of Vosne spice and plenty of aromatic complexity. This is rich yet invigorating, all with surprising length for this level. The introductory three Village wines at Hudelot-Noellat are exemplary, each perfectly expressing the terroir and the vintage. Drink 2018-2025

Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2015
Les Charmes is very well situated about halfway between Bonnes Mares and Le Musigny. The wines from les Charmes are typically elegant with plenty of finesse. The 2015 is very graceful but also exhibits the richness and weight of which Charmes is capable – especially with vines in the sunnier bottom part of the appellation. Charles’ parcel consists primarily of vines over 30 years old and there is a natural concentration to this Charmes. This is vivid and expressive Charmes which jumps out of the glass. Drink 2018 - 2027

Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2015
Les Beaux Monts is exceptionally well situated north of Richebourg and above Echezeaux but the vineyard is large and can be variable – particularly for sites that are farthest away from the Grand Crus. Hudelot-Noellat have a great parcel comprising old vines on pure limestone in one of the best parts of the vineyard. The 2015 is dense and brambly with a taut structure and very impressive length. This is a powerful Beaux Monts with a lot of complexity yet to unfurl; already nuances of fruit and mineral layers fan out on the finish. This is restrained, composed and incredibly promising. Drink 2019 - 2030

Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 2015
Les Suchots is a top class Premier Cru situated right in the heart of the Vosne Grand Crus. Hudelot’s parcel is comprised of 100-year-old vines on soils with a high proportion to clay. This composition typically results in a wine that is more generous and broad, such as is the case with the 2015 Suchots. Here, we have a concentrated core of sweet berries dominated by strawberry and red currant. The tannins are wonderfully supple and massage the palate while supporting the pure and pristine red fruit. There is a freshness which further highlights the beautiful fruit quality and drives the wine through to a delineated, complex, nuanced finish. Benchmark Suchots. Drink 2019 - 2030

Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Clos Vougeot 2015
Hudelot Noellat have two of the best parcels in the large and somewhat variable Clos Vougeot. Some years ago, Alain Hudelot sold the estate’s parcel in the bottom part, reducing the volume considerably but dramatically increasing the quality. Today, this is among the finest examples of Clos Vougeot comprising two sections near the Château neighboring Domaine Leroy’s parcel. The 2015 illustrates just how sensual and seductive Clos Vougeot can be with wildly complex and enchanting aromatics and deep, rich fruit. The 2015 wears its considerable power lightly and with energy and verve; a thrilling Clos Vougeot which delivers outstanding complexity with elegance and finesse. Drink 2020 - 2032
