A bit better in yield as everybody protected their vines in Le Montrachet, with the 2016 disaster in mind. A fine mid lemon yellow, this begins discreetly but there is a wonderful concentrated intensity through the middle, a racy quality perhaps not quite there in the Chevalier. This time there is clearly a beginning, a middle and an end. Really enormously persistent and leaving a special taste in the mouth. I might just sip it to keep me company en route to my next tasting in Gevrey-Chambertin! Drink from 2030-2040

4 barrels only from Bouchard’s 2+ hectares, including the La Cabotte section which could not be made separately this year. A touch of coconut and light vanilla sitting on top of the concentrated, mostly white, fruit. A touch of verbena, ripe citrus, even a hint of liquorice. The fruit weight builds at the back. A softer finish than some producers this year. Kicks on a bit more right at the back. Drink from 2027-2033.

A low key lemon and lime colour. Clean fresh and classic on the nose. A very typical fresh stony palate, lightly washed in citrus, with enough flesh to provide the body necessary for ageing, and a fine, long, persistently mineral finish. Drink from 2027-2035.

Bouchard, Meursault 1er Cru, Genevrieres 2021 SOLD OUT

£275 per 3 bottle case in bond

Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy.com, 92-94 points, November 2022

Pale lemon colour. This is discreet at first on the nose, but classic Genevrières delicacy and intricacy develops on the palate, all lightly washed in a citrus juice. The oak speaks a little but is well integrated. Not a massive wine but all nicely in place. Drink from 2026-2032.

Bouchard, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 2021 LIMITED AVAILABILITY

£2,550 per 6 bottle case in bond

Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy.com, 93-96 points, November 2022

Not domaine, but sourced from their usual plot of 0.70ha which delivered a fairly full crop in 2021. Just 30% whole bunch vinification. Full deep red plum and peach fruit, a bouquet which might want freshening. A delicious and accurate style of Clos de Bèze on the palate, with some strawberries now at the back of the palate. Minor tannins, good persistence. Drink from 2028-2035
