As Simon wrote when we offered the Agostino Bosco 2019 Barolo originally, ‘"I would count this as one of the most memorable tastings I have had in Barolo, encompassing, as it did, wine from barrel and bottle. And, if you consider that we visited 20 estates across Barolo and Barbaresco in a full week of tasting, I was not short of references to benchmark the quality of Andrea’s wines.’ I completely stand by those comments…this is an exciting estate and the 2019s are especially impressive." 


We bought a parcel of Andrea’s Langhe Nebbiolo 2019 and have gradually worked our way through it, for which I must personally take some credit. It is the product of such a fine vintage and made in such an appealingly drinkable style. It has also now benefited from a number of years in bottle which has allowed the gentle tannic frame to loosen up and integrate itself. This is now a wine to take delivery of, to pull the cork on, and to enjoy. The ideal mid-week red for these autumn days.


By way of background, Andrea owns a small estate with six hectares of vines, four and a half in the commune of La Morra and one and a half in Verduno. Among his holdings are two impressive parcels within Cru vineyards, namely La Serra in La Morra and Neirane in Verduno. He has augmented his estate with acquisitions in La Morra, which he blends to make a hugely impressive cuvée, his Barolo, Commune di La Morra.


The Langhe Nebbiolo fruit comes partially from young vines in La Serra and Neirane but mainly from a dedicated south-facing vineyard that used to produce Dolcetto. The winemaking style is reassuringly traditional, with the Langhe Nebbiolo fermented in stainless steel tanks, where temperatures are controlled to stay below 30 degrees Celsius, and macerated for just 10-14 days before being aged for 12-14 months in large old oak barrels, all in order that none of the perfumed aromatics of Nebbiolo are lost.


Because we are due to move on to a new vintage, we have decided to offer the few remaining cases of the excellent 2019 vintage at the discounted price of £145 per 12 bottle case in bond, down from £180 per 12 bottle case, while stocks last.

Andrea Bosco’s Langhe Nebbiolo is absolutely on song. The colour is pale, reflecting the traditional approach that Andrea embraces and this is also reflected in the scented aromatic profile, showing a gently floral dimension to the pure, ripe, red fruits that grace the nose and caress the palate. Having enjoyed a few years in bottle, the tannins, which were always fine and gently structuring, have integrated fully into the wine, making for a seamless whole. Showing the well-recognised quality of the 2019 vintage, expressed in the sensitive and reassuringly traditional winemaking style of all Agostino Bosco wines, this Langhe Nebbiolo is drinking beautifully right now, and for the next 12 months, with its vibrant cherry and raspberry fruit counterbalanced by a gentle mineral grip.
