"They are wines that you need to ‘get to the table’ (loosely translated) while the 2024s will need time.” said Jean-Pierre Latour of his 2023s when I was tasting with him last November. Not because they are in any way fragile, but because they are pure drinking pleasure with healthy fruit and glorious balance. While Jean-Pierre may have been talking about all of his 2023s, it is most definitely applicable now for the entry-point Domaine Latour-Giraud, Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 which we are offering today at £140 per 6 bottle case in bond (£189.50 inclusive of duty and VAT)

“Outstanding Top value” for Allen Meadows and a “5-star” wine for Jasper Morris, the 2023 Bourgogne Chardonnay is drinking beautifully, with its pristine fresh citrus fruit on a gently textured palate, combining a lightness of touch with an appealing fruit intensity and length.

Jean-Pierre has for many years now been making whites of great purity, transparency, integrity and harmony from his base on the main road through Meursault. The arrival of critical acclaim has been slow but has more recently been building, with both Allen Meadows and Jasper Morris increasingly and consistently smitten over the last four or five vintages. Latour-Giraud’s under-the-radar status is a huge blessing for us and for you, of course. Long may it continue! Even if we would like to see Jean-Pierre gain the wider recognition he deserves.

“Jean-Pierre has produced a fabulous range of classical white wines in 2023, truly typical of their terroirs.” Jasper Morris, October 2024

“The Latour 2023s are first-rate and every wine is highly recommended.” Allen Meadows, June 2025

I concur. This is drinking beautifully. It is also now with us in stock and available for immediate delivery.

Can you ever have enough good, good value white Burgundy?!

Good ripeness and concentration, showing excellent intensity for its level on the nose. Subtle hazelnut notes then a citrus-laden attack with lemon and grapefruit notes. Textured through the palate with a pithy grip at the end carrying the citrus fruit. And less than 13% alcohol, Jean-Pierre tells me. Too more-ish. Drink 2026-2030 (ROM)

‘Outstanding Top value’, 87 points, Allen Meadows, burghound.com, June 2025
Ripe and fresh aromas include those of petrol, straw and the essence of apple. There is both good volume and vibrancy to the succulent and nicely textured middle weight flavors that conclude in a clean, dry and youthfully austere finale. This well-made effort is worth considering. Drink 2026+

5-star wine, 88-91 points, Jasper Morris, insideburgundy.com, October 2024
From the upper part of Les Vaux. Mid lemon, summer flowers, a very cheerful Bourgogne Blanc which does not deny its Meursault neighbours. Stunning concentration behind. Jean-Pierre Latour has got this exactly right. Drink from 2026-2028
