2023 Burgundy: The Meursault of Domaine Latour-Giraud

Jean-Pierre has produced a fabulous range of classical white wines in 2023, truly typical of their terroirs.
Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy.com,  December 2024

We have been banging the drum about the wines of Jean-Pierre Latour for at least 7 years already. From the bottom to the top these are wines that deliver at a very high level. Terroir expression, precision, pure fruit, mineral tension. Absolutely beautiful Meursault. (And a tremendous Bourgogne Chardonnay, I might add.)

Many Atlas clients already appreciate this and will no doubt be back in touch about these latest releases. For those that do not know the wines of Domaine Latour-Giraud, I provide here the comments of two of the most respected Burgundy critics, both with decades of tasting and drinking experience, and both of whom have become increasingly aware of a level of quality and typicity that we recognised from the outset.

Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy.com:
Jean-Pierre has produced a fabulous range of classical white wines in 2023, truly typical of their terroirs. (December 2024 on the 2023s)

I do enjoy tasting with Jean-Pierre Latour. He is one of the most thoughtful vignerons that I come across, nothing flamboyant in his presentation, no cutting-edge techniques in his viticulture or vinification. Just plain common sense and a thorough understanding both of his terroirs and how best to manage the potential of a given vineyard. (December 2023 on the 2022s)

Jean-Pierre Latour is my hero this year… his range of white wines was just about the finest I tasted through the autumn months! (December 2022 on the 2021s)

This was an admirable tasting with some beautiful 2020 white wines. Jean-Pierre describes it as a vintage of precision, with details and subtility preserved despite the sunshine. (December 2021 on the 2020s)

Allen Meadows, burghound.com:

I have said this before but if you're not searching out these wines, you're missing out on one of the best kept secrets in Meursault. (June 2024 on the 2022s)

..they are absolutely worth searching out as every wine in the range is highly recommended. (June 2023 on the 2021s)

These are wines to search out as the quality is phenomenal and every wine in the range is highly recommended. (June 2022 on the 2020s)

I was definitely impressed with the quality I found. (June 2021 on the 2019s)

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023
£150 per 6 bottles in bond
Good ripeness and concentration, showing excellent intensity for its level on the nose. Subtle hazelnut notes then a citrus-laden attack with lemon and grapefruit notes. Textured through the palate with a pithy grip at the end carrying the citrus fruit. Drink 2026-2030 (ROM)

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault, Les Narvaux 2023
£360 per 6 bottles in bond
Purity and citrus depth on the nose. Silky textured through the palate. Lemon and lime lift at the end. The mineral dimension builds on the late palate and into the finish with juicy citrus also returning. Drink 2026-2033 (ROM)

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault 1er Cru, Les Bouchères 2023
£420 per 6 bottles in bond
Ripe lemon fruit, juicy and pure. The attack shows ripe richness but there is a tension and energy through the mid-palate and into the finish giving the characteristic dancing elegance and poise of this cuvee. This has all the energy so typical of Jean-Pierre’s Bouchères. Drink 2026-2033 (ROM)

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault 1er Cru, Les Charmes 2023
£510 per 6 bottles in bond
This really holds its energy and tension. Again, ripe citrus, reserved lemons, sweetness of ripe citrus, crystalline. Mouth-filling yet palate cleansing. Juicy lemon and grapefruit length. Evident minerality but it is currently the pristine, healthy fruit that is very much to the fore. There is a suppleness and a pleasure to this Charmes but there is also so much energy. Drink 2027-2035 (ROM)

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault 1er Cru, Les Genevrières 2023
£540 per 6 bottles in bond
There is beautiful richness and ripeness this is all about mineral tension. Lime fruit concentration and intensity on nose. Mineral energy too. The fruit intensity continues through to the finish but there is an overriding sense of the terroir already being totally in control and dominant. Drink 2027-2035 (ROM)

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru, Champ Canet 2023
£540 per 6 bottles in bond
Ripe citrus on the nose. Beautifully healthy fruit. Incredible energy and drive on the late palate with a cooler fruit profile. Mouthwatering and mineral. Great persistence. Drink 2027-2035 (ROM)

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault 1er Cru, Les Genevrières, Cuvée des Pierre 2023
£630 per 6 bottles in bond
Pure, piercingly precise. Intense core yet so balanced and controlled. So coolly ripe. Powerful, tensile mineral persistence. Drink 2027-2038 (ROM)
