2021 Domaine Latour-Giraud, Bourgogne Chardonnay - 'drinking superbly now'

2021 Domaine Latour-Giraud, Bourgogne Chardonnay - £150 per 6 bottle case

His range of white wines was just about the finest I tasted through the autumn months!
Jasper Morris MW - December 2022

If you are short of drinking white Burgundy, you could do a lot worse than pick up a case of Jean-Pierre Latour’s Bourgogne Blanc in the 2021 vintage.

This Bourgogne has always been impressive, but it really punches above its weight in recent vintages, as a chance tasting of the 2021 revealed last week. With regard to the 2021, specifically, Jasper Morris MW, seems to have picked up on the same point in his note below, where he suggests that one could ‘believe senior vineyards were declassified in to this but not the case.’

Frankly, Jean-Pierre has been on a roll these last few vintages, with it seeming to us that quality has nudged just a little bit higher over this period. This is a serious comment given the wines were of a high quality initially.

The 2021 Bourgogne Blanc is in stock, ready for dispatch and is drinking superbly right now. What’s more, it offers great value for money, in a category where entry level wines from leading producers are priced far more highly than this.

Clean mid yellow. Takes time but some attractive fruit begins to come out. Then an extraordinary concentration, fresh pears. I could believe senior vineyards were declassified in to this but not the case. Very long finish. And a zesty fresh finish. Drink from 2024-2027.
