2019 Langhe Nebbiolo, Renato Corino - a gem of a wine for drinking on release

2019 Langhe Nebbiolo, Renato Corino - a gem of a wine for drinking on release

2019 Langhe Nebbiolo, Renato Corino

£80 per 6 bottle case in bond

On a quiet August afternoon, I thought I would highlight a really appealing red that I have been enjoying of late, namely Renato Corino’s Langhe Nebbiolo – this has been something of a mainstay for Atlas over the last decade. Never heavy, always bright and vibrant with a floral touch to its juicy cherry fruit. These humble Langhe Nebbiolo offer great value and are ready to drink after just a couple of years in bottle. Corino's Langhe Nebbiolo, of which only 8,000 bottles are produced each year, is made from fruit taken from vineyards in the commune of La Morra, where vines range from 20 to 40 years of age. It is made to be enjoyed early, while the Barolo age in the cellar. Not all Nebbiolo are powerful and needing time; this is all about lightness of touch.

I think you’ll be impressed if you haven’t yet tried this – there is a ring of quality about it that isn’t all too evident in many wines at this price. And if you have tried it before, the 2019 is as good as any vintage I can recall and this is a very familiar bottle chez Larkin.

This comes from 1.3 hectares of vines in the commune of La Morra and is frankly a gem of a wine. Unlike Barolo, fermentation lasts just one week in order to produce an attractive, youthful Nebbiolo destined for early consumption. That said, it does not lack concentration with rosy aromas to its supple cherry-like fruit, backed by a juicy freshness. This is an appealing Nebbiolo for drinking on release. Drink 2020 to 2023.
