2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Domaine Georges Roumier
£7,250 per 6 bottle case in bond
Today, we can offer up to three cases of 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru from Georges Roumier at £7,250 per 6 bottle case in bond.
Currently, there are only two listings for sealed cases in the UK and both are for three bottle cases, one at £5,310/3 and one at £6,250/3 in bond.
The last trade for a six-bottle case on Liv-ex is dated 01/03/2023 and it traded for £14,391/6 before commission. This year a three-bottle case traded on the exchange for £5,000/3 in bond on the 26th March. The peak value as tracked by Liv-ex was £16,172/6.
The current market turbulence continues to bring such opportunities to the light, notably in Burgundy.
Here is the note and score from Jasper Morris MW:
2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Domaine Georges Roumier
96-98 points, Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy.com
Rich purple, with energy on the nose, more black fruit, a little less easy to read than the flamboyant Ruchottes. Two thirds whole bunch just visible. Showing the duality of this vineyard. More black than red, nothing in any way cooked, deep long and sultry, some comparison with Bussière but a much greater depth of generous fruity and of course very long indeed. Going to be spectacular, I think. A really classic structure with a brilliant aftertaste. Tasted Nov 2021.
He also awarded it 5 stars, a system he employs alongside his 100-point rating scale. Jasper comments that the 100-point scale is an absolute measure across all wine regions, whereas the five-star rating is relative to the wine’s status.
Here is the Liv-ex chart that shows just how the wine has fallen in value. This is based on a 12-bottle case. It released just as the market started its decline in late 2022/ early 2023.
The question is just how far does a renowned Grand Cru Burgundy of undoubted class need to fall before it draws buyers back in? Is a fall of 55% to the price at which we can offer today enough?
We think that is an interesting question and one worth asking you; hence this offer.
