2013 Cristal Rosé, Champagne Louis Roederer
'one of the greatest thrills in wine' AG
This is another banner vintage for what I consider the reigning champion of the region's tête de cuvée bottlings, and it will be worth an effort to acquire.

2013 Cristal Rosé, Louis Roederer
£760 per single magnum in bond
(30 magnums available)
At half the price of their peak listing, we can offer 2013 Roederer Cristal Rosé at £760 per individually-cased magnum in bond.
Listings were between £1,200 to £1,700 per magnum two years ago. Looking at bottles, the market has softened from the initial release price of £2,100 per six bottles, whereas it is interesting to note that trade of magnums has retained a premium. This can be seen in the three red dots (in September 2024) at the top of the Liv-ex graph below; all other trades, shown as red dots on this graph, are for 75cl bottles.
In terms of critical acclaim, William Kelley asserts: A candidate for wine-of-the-vintage honors in Champagne, Roederer's 2013 Cristal Rosé is showing brilliantly while Antonio Galloni concludes: Readers who can find the 2013 in magnum will experience one of the greatest thrills in wine.
So, a ravishing champagne from an increasingly lauded vintage with a long life ahead, even more so in magnum, and at 50% down from its market high to date.

Tasted from magnum, the 2013 Cristal Rosé is ravishing. Dense, creamy and powerful, the 2013 captures all the qualities of the vintage, specifically the interplay of rich fruit from the warm summer and cooler inflections from a year that started late and ended late with a rare October harvest. Today, the 2013 is deep and beautifully seamless, but it is also young – far too young to be at its best. Dosage is 6.5 grams per liter, a bit less than for the standard bottlings, a decision taken to balance longer aging on the lees and a bit more residual sugar that is always left in the magnums after fermentation. Readers who can find the 2013 in magnum will experience one of the greatest thrills in wine. Drink 2026-2053

A candidate for wine-of-the-vintage honors in Champagne, Roederer's 2013 Cristal Rosé is showing brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with notes of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers, red berries, stone fruit, freshly baked bread and tangerine oil. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, the vintage's bright girdling acids are amply cloaked in exuberant, expressive and notably concentrated fruit; so while this Cristal is as tensile and age-worthy as one would expect, it's also impressively fleshy and generous given the year. Concluding with an intensely sapid finish, the 2013 isn't as overtly structured as the muscular, tightly wound 2012: rather, it's the 2013's alliance of cut and flesh, precision and charm that's so compelling this year. This is another banner vintage for what I consider the reigning champion of the region's tête de cuvée bottlings, and it will be worth an effort to acquire. 2021-2061
