Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2018

A wonderfully elegant, cool and very restrained nose combines notes of essence of acacia blossom, mineral reduction, mint tea and a variety of white fleshed fruit, all of which is trimmed in lovely spice nuances, especially anise. There is solid density and outstanding delineation to the chiseled and almost painfully intense broad-shouldered yet gorgeously refined flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract on the very firm, youthfully austere and slightly warm finish that goes on and on. I would add that this changed enormously during the course of several hours as it went from plump, round and almost forward to tightly wound and quite serious. Drink 2030+

Slightly riper aromas include those of white and yellow peach, quinine, plenty of floral and citrus hints plus a deft touch of wood. There is fine volume to the caressing yet powerful medium weight plus flavors that coat the palate with dry extract while displaying outstanding length on the very dry bitter lemon zest finish that also possesses enough warmth to mention. Remarkably, this is somewhat finer than the BBM, which is not usually the case. Patience strongly suggested. Drink 2030+

Hints of mineral reduction and matchstick character suffuse the elegant aromas of honeysuckle, acacia blossom and spiced pear that are trimmed in wisps of wood and lemon rind. The super-sleek, intense and nicely detailed flavors possess good richness on the citrusy and beautifully long finale where moderate warmth slowly emerges. This elegant effort is perhaps a bit bolder and powerful than is usually the case and a BBM that should age gracefully over the next decade. Drink 2028+
