Resurgent quality from Burgundy’s most famous names?

The idea of holding this tasting was driven by a discussion surrounding the surge in quality that has been witnessed in recent years from some of Burgundy’s most prestigious houses. These are not small-scale, artisan growers; Drouhin, Jadot and Faiveley all own sizeable amounts of vineyard across the Côte d’Or, with some supplementing their production with a négoçiant business, where fruit is supplied to them under contract. In order to assess the respective quality of each producer, we have selected the same Grand Cru in the same vintage from each (where possible) and will serve the wines under single blind conditions, which means guests will know which Grand Cru and vintage they are tasting, but the name of the producer will not be revealed until the end of the flight so that we can gain an impartial view of quality.

The following twelve wines from four vintages have been selected for the event and will each be served alongside a course for this four course dinner:

2010 Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Louis Jadot
2010 Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Joseph Drouhin
2010 Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Faiveley

2009 Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru, Louis Jadot
2009 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Joseph Drouhin
2009 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Faiveley

2008 Echezeaux, Grand Cru, Louis Jadot
2008 Echezeaux, Grand Cru, Joseph Drouhin
2008 Echezeaux, Grand Cru, Faiveley

2007 Chapelle-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Louis Jadot
2007 Griotte-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Joseph Drouhin
2007 Mazis-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Faiveley

The evening will take place at Koffmann’s at The Berkeley on 1st December 2015. Renowned Head Chef Pierre Koffmann will be creating a menu specifically for this dinner to complement the vintages on show. Guests are asked to arrive at 7.00pm for a glass of Champagne. Space is strictly limited to 12 clients so I would certainly advise early booking.
